Understanding the Causes of Aging

December 5th, 2018 • Posted by Lupe Guthrie • Permalink

Research shows that there are three distinct types of aging: biological, extrinsic, and intrinsic.

Biological aging is the result of changes that occur naturally within the body. These changes are the result of a gradual shift in the balance of certain hormones and messenger molecules excreted by other glands and organs within the body.

Extrinsic aging consists of exposure to extreme weather conditions (cold, heat, wind) for long periods of time, smoking, pollutants, inappropriate cosmetics, as well as lack of skin care and protection.

Genetics and heredity are considered intrinsic aging and dictate the rate at which the body’s aging process progresses.
